How to Pray for Pensacola

10 Ways We Can Pray for Our City Together

10 Prayer Prompts for Pensacola

Thank you for having a burden for Pensacola, and for taking action on that burden. Pensacola is our mission field, and we want to see God do great things in Pensacola for His glory.

The following are PRAYER PROMPTS. These are suggestions of things for which to pray.  This is not a comprehensive list, but hopefully it will get you started. Perhaps these Prayer Prompts will aid you in having a “Sweet HOUR of Prayer” as you pray for Pensacola.

1. Pray for SOULS

  • Pray for individuals to be born again throughout Pensacola. (John 3:3)

  • Pray that, as a result, our city will become known as a Christian city; taking the example of Paul concerning his own people Israel, “Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for [Pensacola] is, that they might be saved.” (Romans 10:1)

  • Pray for the efforts of soul winners throughout Pensacola; “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:20)

  • Pray for Christians’ hearts to be broken over the lost. Pray that we would have a REAL burden for the lost. (2 Corinthians 5:11) “Souls for Jesus Is Our Battle Cry.”

2. Pray for REVIVAL

  • Pray that Christians throughout our city would be revived out of spiritual apathy and lethargy.

  • Pray that Christians would be EMBOLDENED to live out their faith.

  • Pray that God would “revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee.” (Psalm 85:6)

3. Pray for WORSHIPPERS & Strong Churches

  • Pray that Bible-preaching churches across our city would be packed with people worshipping God whenever their doors are open.

  • Pray that Christians would prioritize gathering with their local faith family instead of prioritizing so many other things. The church in America has not only been marginalized by the culture, but also by Christians.

  • Pray for strong Christ-centered churches.

4. Pray for UNITY Among the Brethren

  • Pray against schisms between Christians. (1 Corinthians. 12:25)

  • Pray for “unfeigned love of the brethren.” (1 Peter 1:22)

  • Pray for Christian unity like Jesus did.

“That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.”  (John 17:21)

5. Pray for the WELFARE of the City of Pensacola

“And seek the peace [or welfare] of the city … and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.” (Jeremiah 29:7)

  • Pray for strong, Christlike families with strong marriages and biblically grounded parents.

  • Pray for the number of thriving Christian families in Pensacola to grow.

  • Pray that God will raise up the next generation of Christlike Christians and families.

  • Pray for Bible-teaching Christian schools to be led by faithful faculty and staff and pray that the gospel will take root in the hearts of the students.

6. Pray for GOD’S WILL in Pensacola

  • Pray the phrase in the model prayer, “Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).

God’s will IS being accomplished in heaven, but in many ways, it is not being accomplished on the earth. For example, it is not God’s will that Pensacola allow strip clubs, vice shops, and bars.

God’s will is holiness.

  • Pray that righteousness would prevail, and that the evil establishments would be closed for God‘s glory. (Jeremiah 29:7; Proverbs 14:34).

  • Pray against the drug epidemic in our city.

One reason why we have a homeless crisis is because we also have a drug crisis. Pray for good ministries like Waterfront (Executive Director Clay Romano and Recovery Director Mike Kelly) that are trying to guide men and women from vice into freedom.

  • Pray for good ministries like Safe Harbor Pregnancy Medical Center (Director Deedra Miller) as they advocate for life.

God’s will is LIFE.

  • Pray for other good Christian ministries throughout Pensacola that are not mentioned here.

7. Pray for our LOCAL OFFICIALS

  • Pray for the following officials to get SAVED and lead our town in accordance with Scripture:

“I exhort therefore, that…supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men, for kings, and for all that are in authority that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” (1 Timothy 2:1–2)

a. Pensacola Mayor DC Reeves

b. Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons

c. Pensacola Police Chief Eric Winstrom

  • Pray for the safety of law enforcement officers, ESPECIALLY the ones in our church families.  (Galatians 6:10)

  • Pray for state and federal representatives:

a. Florida House District 1:
Michelle Salzman

b. Florida House District 2: Alex Andrade

c. Florida Senate District 1: Don Gaetz

a. District 1: Kevin Adams

b. District 2: Paul Fetsko

c. District 3: Dr. David Williams (Chairman)

  • Pray that our school board would remove pornographic material and stop teaching evolution.

  • Pray for the Christian teachers who work in the public school system to have discernment and boldness in that mission field.

8. Pray for the GOVERNOR’S OFFICE

State politics have an impact on local happenings and the morals of individual cities.

  • Pray for Governor Ron DeSantis.

  • Pray for the upcoming gubernatorial election.

A note from Pastor Johnson:As best I can tell, Paul Renner has a clear Christian testimony and may be the best candidate for Governor of Florida. If he is indeed a Christian with conviction, please join me in praying that the Lord works a miracle for him to be the next governor of our state.

  • Pray for Attorney General James Uthmeier, who seems to be doing a lot to promote righteousness.

  • Pray for Daniel Perez, Speaker of the House for the state of Florida. Speaker Perez has legislative control, and he determines which bills are prioritized and voted on in the House.  He has a key role in seeing the state of Florida pass Christ-honoring legislation.

9. Pray for the WEATHER

  • Pray against the drought.

It has been recently reported that the drought gripping Florida from Pensacola to Jacksonville to Miami is the worst in 24 years. The drought and wind have created the conditions for unusually volatile fires.

  • Pray for safety during hurricane season.

10. Pray for PROTECTION in Persecution

When the Lord does the things we are asking for, Christians throughout our city will face persecution at some level. The heathen will rage.  (Psalm 2:1–12, 2 Timothy 3:12)

  • Pray for a supernatural hedge of protection around Christian politicians, business owners, leaders, and for all Christians who are actively and publicly promoting Christ.
    If persecution comes, consider Matthew 5:12–16; 1 Peter 3:14–17; 1 Peter 4:12.
